HISTORY

Indian Rock Cabin takes its name from a landmark just across the water: Indian Rock. Nestled on the shores of Kalispell Bay, the rock is a place of quiet significance, where centuries-old pictographs—symbols and images painted onto stone—can still be seen. Created by the Kalispel Tribe, who have lived in this region for generations, these pictographs are part of Priest Lake’s enduring story.

The images at Indian Rock, painted with natural pigments, were used to record moments of life, spirit, and tradition. They remain a testament to the deep connection between the Kalispel people and this landscape—the lake, the mountains, and the forests that surround it.

We chose the name Indian Rock Cabin to honor this piece of Priest Lake’s history and the cultural legacy it represents. The rock has stood as a silent witness to families gathering here for generations: fishing its waters, exploring its forests, and creating traditions of their own.

Today, our cabin carries forward that same spirit. A place for families to come together, to share stories by the fire, and to find their own connection to this remarkable place.
